Title Rowe: or "Why My Head Is A Bad Place to Live"
Here are the things that run through my mind at 5 AM on a Saturday morning, while I'm wildly pacing the empty floors, smoking an imaginary cigarette, trying to get my mind quiet enough to let all the full paragraphs already written in my head make that wide jump from in there to the monitor screen.
It goes a little something like this...
Dear Time Out New York,
Your cover this week is totally stolen from Episode 2.08 of Coupling, "Naked," in which Jeff Murdock finally gets a girlfriend, a character who has the same name as I do. The character is played by the actress Lou Gish, who died tragically early from cancer shortly after she appeared on the show.
Her lover, at the time of her death, was the actor Nicholas Rowe, who, in what Shakespeare would call his salad days, played the title role (I almost typed "title Rowe") in Steven Spielberg's interesting big-budget bad idea Young Sherlock Holmes. I obviously had a huge crush on him once I saw it. When he grew up, he played one of the pot growers in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. When I, for the first and (so far) only time, fell in love, it was with a boy who shared his name and who loved that film.
This kind of shit runs through my head all the time. It rages and roars and screams in there, and if I don't get it out it tries to put a pillow over my heart and smother the life out of me. It stops me from functioning properly.
I need a place to spill it all out, to quiet the noise. Hence, this blog.
